Biotechnology

The processes in classic plant cultivation have changed drastically in the past 25 years. Biotechnological procedures such as marker-supported selection, in-vitro culture or double haploid technology were developed and are integrated today in classic breeding operations. In many cases they help to reduce the time needed to develop and introduce a new variety.

Our biotechnology laboratories with their associated greenhouses are located at our Schlanstedt site. There we select phenotype and marker-supported sugar beet plants after exposing them to pathogens under standardized conditions. We also produce double haploid wheat lines using further crossings (wheat x corn) and embryo rescue techniques.
